Yesterday we had a discussion on red and green. Here is an example. I painted this painting using mostly reds and greens. The white flower is built using the neutral made from the reds and greens. Notice the reds on the palette how I place the 3 reds out in a line from the warm Naphthol Red Light to the cool Red Violet with cool Quin. Violet in the center. Cool Red Violet is used to tone and cool shadow green leave, while Nap. Red Light is used to tone and warm lighter green leaves. The beautiful whites are controlled by brush mixing the reds and greens with touches of Hansa Yellow.

Sound difficult? No. All you have to do is limit down your palette to a few of your favorite colors and learn their temperatures. It is so much more difficult to paint with 12 colors than 6 if you think about it. Try to remember the temperatures of all 12 colors. Remember your color printers does in with 4 colors. It can be done and it is not difficult at all if you start doing it. Color is nothing to fear. Embrace it, it will make you an artist. smile emoticon Have a great painting day.
